The ORHS Student Council annually awards a $2000 scholarship to a graduating senior who exemplifies the best of Oak Ridge High School in both academics and leadership. If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, please see Mrs. Mullins, Mrs. Homan or Mrs. Haynes for an application. Applications will be due by Monday, May 21 to any of the Student Council Advisors. The scholarship will be announced on Friday, May 25th during homeroom. (F) – K. Mullins
JUNIORS! Are you interested in helping plan your Sr. Breakfast? Do you have ideas for the Senior slideshow or Senior song? If so, stop by Mrs. Kile or Mrs. Henry’s rooms (CS 228 or CS 232) sometime this week to pick up a petition for next year’s Senior Steering. Petitions are due back to Mrs. Henry by Wednesday, May 16. With three weeks until exams, it is crunch time! NHS tutors are available from 3-3:45 in the Guidance office. Tuesday's tutors are Brandon Scott and Bonnie LeNoir. Thursday's tutors are Loni Albrecht and Alex Hyatt. (Th) – L. Bailey
The Driving Center Summer Driver Ed. Classes are filling fast. A few slots are available for the June 4th and July 9th sessions. Sign-up while there are slots available. (Tu, Th) – J. Woofter
Applications are currently being accepted for one (2) Oak Ridge High School Student Representative for the Environmental Quality Advisory Board (EQAB) and one (1) Representative for the Traffic Safety Advisory Board (TSAB). The only special qualifications for the positions are Oak Ridge residency and current student status at Oak Ridge High School. All interested students are encouraged to fill out the new, on-line application which is available on the City Clerk’s Departmental Website or at http://tiny.cc/studentreps. Applications and on-line submissions are due on Friday, May 18, 2012 by 5:00 p.m. to the City Clerk’s Office. The election for these positions will take place at the May 29, 2012 City Council Meeting. UPCOMING EVENTS
Those interested in playing for the Lady Wildcats Soccer team must attend tryouts on Friday, June 1 at 5:00 at the ORHS Soccer Stadium. Please dress in appropriate gear. You must also have a physical on file with Oak Ridge Schools. (Tu, Th)
Softball Tryouts will be held Tuesday 5/22 and Wednesday 5/23 at Baseball Complex Field C from 5:00-7:30. Bring a current physical and gloves to tryouts. (Tu, Th)
2012 ORHS Cross Country Team: We will have our meeting for the coming season immediately after school in the Civics Room on Wednesday, May 16. Any ORHS student who likes to run, is interested in a challenge, or who just wants to be a part of a good team is welcome to attend and join the team. If you can’t come to this meeting, please see Coach Etheridge ASAP if you’d like to join. (Th,M,W)
BOYS BASKETBALL Tryouts - JV & Varsity – Wednesday 5/16 – Wildcat Arena This will be the ONLY try out available for this upcoming basketball season 2012-2013.
